Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Every tool currently on Utilhex processes files and text inside your browser. Nothing you add to a tool is sent to Utilhex servers or third parties. Each tool page states how it processes data. Read the privacy policy.

Is Utilhex free?

Yes. All tools are free to use, with no account and no watermark on results.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Utilhex has no accounts or sign-in.

How large can my files be?

Because processing happens on your device, limits depend on your device’s memory. Each tool lists its limits — for example, PDF tools accept files up to 150 MB each. Very large files can be slow on phones and older computers.

Which browsers are supported?

Recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on desktop and mobile. Some image formats depend on your browser: for example, WebP and AVIF output are only offered when your browser can encode them.

Does Utilhex work offline?

Once a tool page has loaded, the tool itself doesn’t need the network to process files. Utilhex isn’t an installable offline app yet, so you need a connection to open pages.

Can Utilhex open password-protected PDFs?

Not currently. Encrypted PDFs are detected and you’ll see a clear message. Remove the password with the software you used to set it, then try again.

Why didn’t my PDF get smaller?

Every level repacks the page data, which is what shrinks a text PDF while leaving the text selectable. Smallest also redraws each page when that produces a smaller file, which is what cuts high-resolution scans down sharply, and text in that download is not selectable. When a result would not be smaller, the tool tells you instead of producing a larger file. Compress PDF.

Is it safe to paste a JWT or API response into the developer tools?

The developer tools run locally and don’t send your input anywhere. Still, treat production secrets carefully on any computer — and remember that decoding a JWT doesn’t verify its signature. JWT Decoder.

A tool isn’t working. What should I do?

Try reloading the page and make sure your browser is up to date. If it still fails, let us know which tool, browser, and error message you saw — but please don’t send confidential files. Contact us.
