About PDF Annotator

PDF Annotator lets you draw, add shapes, place notes, paint area highlights, and drop in a picture or a drawn signature. The marks are written into the PDF as vectors and images, not as a screenshot of the page. It does not edit the text that is already in the document.

How to use PDF Annotator

  1. Choose a PDF of up to 40 pages.
  2. Pick a tool, then draw or place the mark on the page. Use Select to move, resize, or delete it.
  3. Undo and redo affect whole gestures, not every pixel of a drag.
  4. Select Save PDF and download the file.

Examples

Review notes

Place a short text note and an area highlight on the page you want someone to read again.

A drawn signature

Draw on the signature pad and place the picture. It is an image of ink, not a cryptographic signature.

Limitations

  • Existing PDF text, forms, and embedded media are not edited. Highlights are rectangles, not word selection.
  • A signature placed here is an image. It is not a digital signature, and it does not make a document legally signed.
  • Changing a signed PDF means the original signature will no longer verify.
  • Notes use Helvetica. Encrypted PDFs and files over 40 pages or 40 MB are rejected.

Privacy

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDFs uploaded to a server?

No. The file is read and processed by JavaScript running in your browser tab. Utilhex never receives the document, and closing the tab discards it.

Can I change the words already in the PDF?

No. You can draw and place new notes on top. The original text stays as it was.

Is the signature legally binding?

No. It is a picture of what you drew. It does not use a certificate or a signature standard.
